| How many hours will I need to pass my test? | |
| Questions |
The official DSA answer is "on average between 40 and 60 hours of professional tuition". In reality this can be rather misleading. Few people pass in less than 40 hours unless they have their own car and practise for hours. Age and circumstances also play a great role in the ability to learn. The most important factor though is willingness to learn.
|
| What will I need to bring with me on my first lesson? | |
| Questions |
You will need both parts of your photo licence, or your licence and another form of ID for the old style paper licences. Also you will need prescription glasses if you have them and comfortable footwear, not flip flops or boots.
|
| What do I need to take with me for my theory test? | |
| Questions |
You will need both parts of your photo licence, or your licence and your current valid passport for the old style paper licences. You will also need the letter the DSA sent informing you of your test time. Don't forget - no licence, no test!!!
|
| What do I need to take with me for my practical test? | |
| Questions |
You will need both parts of your photo licence, or your licence and your current valid passport for the old style paper licences. You will also need the letter the DSA sent informing you of your test time. Don't forget - no licence, no test!!!
|
| What if I can not find these documents? | |
| Questions |
If you can not find your letter from the DSA you can still take your test. It is helpful to have it if there are any queries about your test time. If you do not have your theory certificate you should be able to take your test, but may have to fill in additional forms. If you cannot find either part of your photo licence you will not be allowed to take your test!!! In exceptional circumstances the DSA helpdesk may be able to help, but don't hold your breath. If you have the old paper style licence and do not have a passport, you will need to change your licence for the new type with a photo. The best advice we can give is to get your paperwork ready at least two weeks in advance so there is plenty of time to get any replacement documents if necessary.

| Can I be collected from or dropped off at an address other than my home? | |

|
| Do you do automatic? | |
| Questions |
Yes we do.
|
| Do you do intensive courses? | |
| Questions |
We are not able to offer intensive courses at the moment. We can do semi intensive instead.
|
| What is the optimum way to learn? | |
| Questions |
Good question. This varies from person to person. However, most people find a two-hour lesson every week to be most beneficial. Of course this may not be right for you, so we will find your optimum learning curve.
|
| What is the average waiting times for a test? | |
| Questions |
From booking a test the wait at present is about eight weeks in Gillingham. This varies from week to week and from centre to centre.
|
| What test centre(s) can I use? | |
| Questions |
We mainly use Gillingham test centre because most people live near the test routes and makes for easy practice. If you wish to use a different centre we should be able to help. For example, at customers' request we have used: Herne Bay, Maidstone, Gravesend, Folkestone, Hastings.
|
| Will I use this car for my test? | |
| Questions |
You will use the car you learn in for your test. As all our cars are the same, we can guarantee giving you a car for your test that you are familiar with if your normal car is off the road due to unforeseen circumstances (except automatic). This has only happened on a couple of occasions. We were able to ensure the test was taken in a familiar car - just a different colour!
|
| What will happen if the car breaks down going to my test? | |
| Questions |
If you are learning in one of our manual C3s, we will guarantee a replacement C3 (as long as it is physically possible). If you are learning in our automatic Skoda, we are afraid we can not guarantee a replacement. As all of our cars are less than four years old this has only happened a couple of times, once a snapped hand brake cable.
|
| What is the two year probationary period? | |
| Questions |
Up to two years after passing your test ALL penalty points accrued are doubled! This means only six points required to lose your licence instead of twelve. If you are unfortunate enough to reach six points they will replace your licence with an application form for a provisional licence. This means another theory test and another practical test - and who wants to do that?!
|
| Who can accompany me for practise in my own car? | |
| Questions |
Anyone who is over 21 and has held a full UK (or full EC/EEA) licence for over three years. |
